Revive your MacWireless Bluetooth USB Dongle
If you like me have toasted your
MacWireless Blueooth USB Dongle with
Apple's Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.0.2, that claims it warnes you if your device is not compatible but does'nt: do not throw it away!
Here is the procedure that will revive your precious USB Dongle:
- Get the original Firmeware for the device, I got mine via support@wireless.com, maybe they give me a direct download location which I can point you to. It's a .dfu file. Update: you can download it here
- Download the DiskImage of Apple's Firmareupdater
- If the download got automatically mounted, eject it
- Open a Terminal and go to the folder in which you downloaded the .dmg
- Convert the .dmg to a rewriteable .dmg and mount the rewriteable with
hdiutil convert BluetoothFWUpdater.dmg -format UDRW -o UpdaterRW.dmg
open UpdaterRW.dmg
- Now back in Finder, go to the mounted Disk Image, "Show Package Contents": Contents/Resources
- Rename the GenericCSR.dfu file to GenericCSR-old.dfu
- Copy your in 1. obtained .dfu file in this location and name it GenericCSR.dfu
- Start the updater and update your dongle
- Feel lucky that your Bluetooth dongle is working again
- Optional: thank me

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This saved my (bluetooth) life!!!
Thanks - but the updater will not work for me as it saying I have to turn bluetooth ON. But I can't do this is it can't even see the USB Bluetooth dongle as it's so fried I guess.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Damn, didn't work for me. Might have been the fact that I fragged mine with the latest updater...
I did it! I got the very latest upgrader stripped out the non-English localization files and copied the Updater directly to my Utilities folder and modified it is as suggested... I have a blue flashy dongle again. Thanks m8! :) I owe you a pint.
Thank you very much! Now my DBT-120 is showing up in Virtual PC =)
BTW, you can option-click the update button to downgrade to an older version.
